BIB, for bag-in-box, is Occhiolino's large format packaging (3 liters). This type of packaging offers a multitude of advantages that we will reveal to you in a minute.
Light, oxygen and heat are the 3 most important threats to olive oil. A significant or prolonged exposure to any of them can quickly degrade the quality of the oil and cause rancidity.
The BIB package consists of 2 layers:
The combination of these 2 layers allows the oil to be protected from oxygen (because the oil is vacuumed in the bag) and to be protected from light (because the cardboard box retains the light rays).
Although the BIB does not control the temperature of the oil inside, a study conducted by researchers Lolis, Badeka & Contominas (2019) proved that olive oil is significantly better preserved in a BIB, even at too high storage temperature (30°C). As a reminder, the ideal storage temperature is between 15 and 20°C.
Selling in bulk is ideal for reducing waste, but prohibited in the case of extra virgin olive oil: for reasons of hygiene, conservation and the fight against fraud. The BIB is an excellent alternative to take advantage of a more economical and ecological packaging.
It is lighter and less bulky than glass or steel. The carbon emission linked to transport is thus strongly reduced. Moreover, the cardboard and the plastic bag, once emptied, can be easily recycled (they still have to be put in the right garbage cans of course).
The BIB is equipped with a pouring tap, which gives it the advantage of being able to easily fill a small bottle that you can keep on the edge of your kitchen.
BIB is protective, ecological and economical. Choose BIB.
